Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously. Prentis Hemphill

Boundaries don’t disconnect; they preserve

Not every space we walk into or must exist in will be safe and brave enough for us to bring our full, authentic selves. Not every space has earned the right to see all of who we are. This truth applies to each of us—and, yes, even more deeply for some.

Yet we are all worthy of showing up fully in our lives, and in the tougher spaces, that means living with boundaries.

Boundaries don’t disconnect; they preserve.

Boundaries say, “This part of me is no longer accessible to you because it’s not safe here.”

Sometimes, that shifts relationships. Sometimes, it means we part ways.

No matter what, though, I will not let you diminish or steal my courage or authenticity. Nor will I let you make me retreat into self-protection and isolation. I will choose the boundaries I need to be okay and remain in connection, even if that connection means I love you from afar.
