In times of change, trust is often tested.
In times of change, trust is often tested, and sometimes even broken. Whether the change is growth, layoffs, or restructuring, our trust in the larger system can waver, sometimes even feeling like betrayal. We may find ourselves questioning if our values still align with this place or space.
And here’s the hard truth: when trust shifts on the larger scale, it leaks into our individual relationships, too. It often feels easier to project outward than to pause, get curious, and own what’s ours.
Right now, so many organizations are navigating change – acquisitions, budget cuts, shrinking resources, and even losing people. Too often, trust erodes in these seasons, not because it has to, but because we don’t talk about it enough. We haven’t operationalized trust into clear, accountable behaviors. Instead, we expect people to just “move on,” when the reality is that what we don’t name will only fester and own us.
So I wonder, what changes are happening in the systems, places, and spaces you belong to? And is anyone brave enough to bring up the trust that’s shifted?
Perhaps you need someone to help you do so? I have a lot of resources to help you with that! 😉
