How do you give back?

Yesterday morning, I did my first shift volunteering during baby season at our local bird rehab.

For three hours straight, I fed baby birds by hand. The wrens, then the cowbird, then three groups of hatching and nestling robins, then the goldfinches. Then repeat. And repeat. And repeat, once finished with all of them it was time to start feeding again as the incubator babies need fed every 15 minutes.

I am exhausted, amazed, and so excited.

I don’t have time for this in my schedule.

Protecting this shift every Monday morning will not be easy.

And giving back is important.

I feel more connected to nature, myself, and to others (because my fellow volunteers were amazing) after my shift.

And I can’t wait to go back Monday morning.

Did I have baby bird poop smell stuck in my nose for most of the day? Sure did.

Was it worth it? Absolutely!!!

How do you give back?

I know where you are needed May to October in St. Louis if you are interested in joining me! ?
